San Francisco Senior Housing Community Nominated for Prestigious Design Award

Dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors, Sentinel Real Estate Group’s Portola Gardens leads the way in value-based, quality care with innovative community renovation.

 

Sentinel Real Estate Group, along with senior housing operator CiminoCare, is pleased to announce their renovation work at the historic Portola Gardens Assisted Living Community has been nominated for a highly-coveted Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Award.

Located in the Garden District in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood, the current structure was first built in the 1930s and has a long history of providing senior care to the area. Noted as one of the first senior care communities in California, the renovation project of the 38,000 square foot historical landmark has been a joint effort between Sentinel Real Estate Group, WHA Architects, and Nomad Design.

“We are honored to be considered among the best in our industry in the Renovation and Repositioning category of the SHN Architecture and Design Awards,” said Kent Ahlering, vice president of development for Sentinel Real Estate Group. “WHA Architects and Nomad Design did an exceptional job of bringing carefully planned renovations to the common areas and resident rooms, as well as the exterior of this historic property. These efforts, combined with the addition of other modern care amenities, have completed our vision of restoring this beautiful California landmark.”

Each year, the SHN Architecture & Design Awards draws entries from some of the most exciting projects in senior housing. This national and international competition had more than 90 submissions this year, bringing together some of the most innovative designs and renovations in the industry. The awards acknowledge those focused on improving the lives of seniors through cutting-edge design; with nominees competing for top honors in several categories including: Affordable, Assisted Living, Independent Living, Memory Care and Renovation/Repositioning.
