As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, they offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. That\u2019s why <a href=\"https:\/\/acl.gov\/news-and-events\/announcements\/older-americans-month-2019-theme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Older Americans Month<\/a> has been recognizing the contributions of this growing population for&nbsp;56&nbsp;years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme, <em>Connect, Create, Contribute<\/em>, encourages older adults and their communities to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Connect <\/strong>with friends, family, and local services and resources.<\/li><li><strong>Create<\/strong> through activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment. <\/li><li><strong>Contribute<\/strong> time, talent, and life experience to benefit others. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Portola Gardens celebrates the month by promoting ways that community members of <em>all<\/em> ages can take part in helping each other. Each month Portola Gardens has an Intergenerational Event. Local elementary school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altavista.school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alta Visa<\/a> comes to our community twice a month. At these get togethers, two generations come together and share in various activities and just spending time with&nbsp;each&nbsp;other.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communities that support and recognize older adults are stronger! Join us in strengthening our community \u2013 this May and throughout the year.
